Yes, everywhere. We ship to all Australian states and territories via Australia Post. If they deliver there, we deliver there.

Once your order is dispatched you'll receive a confirmation email with your Australia Post tracking number. You can follow it all the way to your door on the Australia Post website or app.

Email us at info@mulatto.com.au as quickly as possible and we'll do our best to help before your order goes to roast. Once it's been roasted and dispatched we're unable to make changes.

Because our coffee is roasted in small batches and perishable once opened, we can't accept change-of-mind returns on opened bags. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, email us straight away and we'll sort it out. Not happy with how your coffee tastes? Get in touch — we'll always do our best to make it right.

☕ Freshness & Roasting

We roast in small batches every week. But here's something worth knowing — coffee that's just come off the roaster is actually too harsh to enjoy. During roasting, CO₂ builds up inside the beans and needs time to stabilise before the coffee tastes its best. So we deliberately wait before shipping. What arrives at your door has had that resting time already. The roast date is printed on every bag so you always know exactly when it was roasted.

Your coffee hits its flavour peak at around 1 month after the roast date printed on the bag. Because we deliberately wait for the CO₂ to stabilise before shipping, it's ready to brew from the moment it arrives — no waiting on your end. Once you open the bag, how well you store it makes a real difference. Keep it in an airtight container away from heat and light and you'll get great coffee right through to the end of the bag.

In an airtight container, away from heat, light and moisture. A kitchen cupboard away from the stove or dishwasher works perfectly.

Don't store it in the fridge — moisture and food odours will affect the flavour. The freezer is fine for long-term storage of sealed, unopened bags, but once a bag is open, keep it at room temperature in an airtight container and use it within 6 weeks of the roast date.

🌱 Our Coffee

The Daily is our Mulatto Blend — Colombia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea combined for a smooth, chocolatey cup that works beautifully with milk. Your everyday coffee, consistent and reliable.

The Explorer is our rotating Single Origin — one coffee from one region, changing with each harvest season. If you want to taste what coffee can do when it's left to express itself, this is it.

The Night Shift is our Decaf — all the flavour of a specialty coffee, none of the caffeine. Processed using the Swiss Water Process, which removes caffeine without chemicals.

  • Espresso machine — Espresso grind
  • French press / plunger / cold brew — French Press/Cold Brew grind
  • Pour over / V60 / Chemex — Pour Over grind
  • Moka pot — Moka Pot grind
  • Home grinder — Whole Bean, grind fresh before each brew

Still not sure? Email us at info@mulatto.com.au and we'll point you in the right direction.

A blend combines beans from multiple origins to create a consistent, balanced flavour — reliable across different brew methods and designed to taste the same every time. Our Daily blend is built for this.

A single origin comes from one farm or region, and its flavour reflects exactly where it came from. More expressive, sometimes more complex, and different with every new harvest. Our Explorer is this.

Neither is better — they're just different experiences. Most coffee drinkers end up loving both.

Yes. All Mulatto coffee is specialty grade, meaning it scores 80 or above on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point scale. That places it in the top tier of coffee produced globally — roughly the best 10% of all coffee grown.

Yes — The Night Shift is our decaf. It's processed using the Swiss Water Process, which removes caffeine using only water, without any chemicals or solvents. The result is a clean, flavourful cup that genuinely tastes like specialty coffee. Not an afterthought.

Yes. Direct relationships with the people who grow our coffee are at the core of what Mulatto is about. We source directly and pay fairly — not because it's a marketing point, but because it's the whole reason this business exists.

Juan grew up in Colombia's coffee-growing regions with family in the industry. He's seen firsthand what farmers put into their work. Building a business that genuinely values that is the mission, not the tagline. You can read the full story on our About page.

🔧 Brewing

Don't stress — it's usually a simple fix. The most common culprits are:

  • Coffee that's too old — best within 6 weeks of the roast date on the bag
  • Wrong grind size for your brew method
  • Water that's too hot — aim for 92–94°C, not a rolling boil
  • Dirty equipment — give your machine, portafilter and grinder a proper clean
  • Tap water with a strong taste — filtered water makes a noticeable difference

If none of that helps, email us at info@mulatto.com.au and we'll troubleshoot with you directly.

Start simple. Whatever method you have — espresso machine, plunger, pour over, moka pot — the fundamentals are the same: fresh coffee within 6 weeks of the roast date, filtered water at around 93°C, and clean equipment. The rest is just practice.

Our product pages have a full brew guide with specific ratios, temperatures and steps for each of our five grind options. Select your grind on the product page and the guide updates automatically.

This is almost always a grind issue, and it's easy to fix:

  • Shot running too fast (under 20 seconds)? Your grind is too coarse. Make it finer.
  • Shot running too slow (over 35 seconds)? Your grind is too fine. Make it coarser.

Aim for 25–30 seconds to pull 36ml from 18g of coffee. That's your target. Still stuck? Email us at info@mulatto.com.au and we'll help you dial it in.
